Europa League: Round 3
Eduardo Macia

Job Title: Chief Scout
Date of Birth: 07th May 1974
Birthplace: Valencia - Spain
Nationality: Spanish
Joined: Since 2006

Eduardo Macia joined the Liverpool backroom team in the summer of 2006 after deciding to leave Valencia for a new challenge.

The Spaniard is chief scout for the club and is responsible for scouring the footballing world for players with both the potential and character required to play for the Reds.

He first worked with Rafael Benitez at Valencia, during which time he held the posts of technical advisor and sporting director.

"I look for players all over the world," he says. "We are always watching videos, going to games and talking to our scouts. It's a very busy job but Liverpool is a fantastic club and I'm delighted to be here.

"What do I look for in a player? He has to have the right mentality. I don't care what his name is or what reputation he has, it's how he acquits himself on the field which is the most important thing and whether he has the winning attitude that we are instilling in the squad.

"It's not a matter of quality. There are lots of players with quality but if you want to win you have to have the right mentality."

Eduardo's love affair with football began at the age of 14 when he joined his hometown club Valencia as a player.

However, injury would curtail his hopes of pursuing a successful career in the game and he opted for a different route, becoming a scout by the time he was 29.

Prior to making the move to Merseyside, Eduardo was sporting consultant with Los Che where he first made acquaintances with Rafael Benitez.

It was during this time that he helped oversee the Spanish side's La Liga and UEFA Cup double before following Rafa to Liverpool for a new life in England.
